Hanen Automatic Solar-Powered Cattle and Livestock Feeders are proudly manufactured by Service Line, Inc., located in Reedsburg, Wisconsin.
The Hanen feeder was the idea of Dave Barney, President of Service Line, Inc., who saw firsthand the challenges of daily livestock chores. What started as a hobby in livestock farming quickly turned into a mission to make feeding more efficient and nutritious for his animals. With decades of experience in equipment manufacturing, and an understanding of solar technology, Dave brought this innovative, solar-powered automatic feeder to life.
In addition to Hanen feeders, Service Line, Inc. also manufactures Renegade Parts Washers and Detergents, for industrial washing applications. But no matter what we’re building, the goal is the same: provide long-lasting solutions that help you get the job done.
When you choose a Hanen feeder, you’re not just buying a product—you’re getting a reliable partner dedicated to making your workday easier and your operation more efficient. We’re proud to be part of your farm’s success.
Since joining Hanen in January 2024, Austin has brought a fresh perspective and problem-solving mindset to the product line. With a background as a shaping foreman in road construction, he’s no stranger to hard work. He uses his hands-on experience to help ranchers and farmers find the best feeder solutions for their needs.
Austin takes pride in making life easier for customers, whether it’s improving feeding processes or enhancing product usability. One memorable experience, Austin recalls, was helping a husband who split his time between farming and driving truck. His wife took care of feeding their livestock while he was on the road. Now with a Hanen feeder, her chores became automated, and he worries less—a story that reminds Austin why he loves working with Hanen’s customers.
Though not raised on a farm, Austin now lives on his dad’s old farm with his wife and daughter. They care for chickens and aspire to build a cattle herd in the near future.
His contributions to Hanen include improving solar units, introducing the Wrangler-size feeder, the Hanen Hay Feeder Shed, the Tote Skid, and ensuring products are durable and customizable for real-world farming applications.
Austin is happy to help Hanen Customers with any shipping or service questions.
In August 2025, Tye officially joined the Hanen family business, working alongside his father Dave Barney, and brother-in-law Austin Hinkel. Growing up around cattle and the family business, he’s developed a deep appreciation for hard work and the value of building lasting relationships with customers.
Tye is eager to learn the ins and outs of Hanen’s products and help farmers and ranchers find solutions that make their operations more efficient. He’s especially excited about getting to talk to customers and build relationships with them.
Outside of work, Tye enjoys hiking, swimming, sports such as hockey and football, and traveling the country.
Tye looks forward to being part of Hanen’s tradition of innovation and customer care, while also bringing his own energy and perspective to the team.
Derived from the Finnish word for “His,” the name “Hanen” honors both our founder Dave Barney’s strong Finnish heritage and his deep faith. The name signifies that all our work is dedicated to the Lord, acknowledging that everything we do is ultimately for Him.
The Alpha and Omega, incorporated into the ‘A’ of “Hanen,” is a profound symbol of our belief in God—the beginning and the end, the one who is, who was, and who is to come. This emblem serves as a reminder that our work is done with a higher purpose in mind.
As 1 Corinthians 10:31 reminds us…
